Commonwealth Attorney To Seek Death Penalty PDF Print E-mail

Montgomery County Commonwealth Attorney Brad Finch announced this morning that William Charles Morva will face additional charges of capital murder and use of a firearm in the commission of felony in relation to the death of Montgomery County Sheriff�s Deputy Cpl. Eric Sutphin last Monday morning, Aug. 21.

"Out of respect of the victim�s family, we waited till today to announce additional charges," said Finch.

Finch will seek these two additional indictments at the next meeting of the Montgomery County Grand Jury, which convenes again on Oct. 10;

"We do intend to seek the death penalty in this case," said Finch.

Morva has already been charged with capital murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in relation to the death of Montgomery Regional Hospital Security Officer Derrick McFarland on Sunday, Aug. 20.

Morva was also charged with felony escape and felony assault on a police officer, in relation to injuring a Montgomery County Deputy during the escape.

A preliminary hearing on the charges involving the initial incident is scheduled for Oct. 11.
