Hokies United
A local Virginia Tech student organization is doing their part to make sure fallen heroes, Corporal Eric Sutphin and security guard Derrick McFarland are honored and remembered-- in addition to assisting their families during this time in need. Its called Hokies United, a group, which has in the past assisted earthquake, tidal wave and hurricane victims.

We need to have some kind of reactionary thing, and Hokies United is an organization that addresses disaster when it strikes. It began with 9-11, Hurricane Katrina, the Tsunami in Indonesia, and now we have something that is literally in our back yard and we have a chance to address it, said Sarah Saxton, vice president of the Virginia Tech Government Association (SGA)

Hokies United Those Who Protect and Serve salutes Sutphin and McFarland with a weeklong fundraising effort for the men and their families. Both men were killed in the line of duty August 20-21 trying to apprehend murder suspect William Morva.

We want to show our appreciation for every thing that the law enforcement did. And we also want to honor the officers who died protecting all of us too. Were part of this Virginia Tech community, but were also part of the greater Blacksburg community, so were all into this together, Saxton Said.
