As word got out Monday afternoon that a deputy had been shot and killed, the management of Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream in Blacksburg informed us that they would be holding a benefit next Wednesday, Aug. 30. According to the manager, 50 percent of all sales on Aug. 30 will be donated to the law enforcement officers who had been killed.

Scott Stevens of PSK is auctioning off tickets to this month's Kenny Chesney concert at UVA. This morning's auction netted $1260 for the victims' fund, $660 for the ticket, donated by a woman in Galax, and $600 from donors who just wanted to make a donation. Tomorrow another auction will be held on the air as well. Proceeds from the auctions will be split 50-50 between the two memorial funds.

If you or your group/business is planning to establish any type of benefit fund or fundraiser, please email the information to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it and we will gladly help publicize it by getting the word out.
